Now, I like these books a lot, and certainly the authors put a lot into them… but try to explain to a lay person that 1991’s CAPTURED BY THE ENGINES by Joe Lansdale, for example, was actually a very fine piece of work– both a horror story built around the idea of heritage and family shame AND a good Batman story– told well with some really startling imagery, and you’d get laughed out of the room. [Edit: Greg used three images, but there are far too many possibilities for the third one for me!]
