Hot damn, it’s me! Hitting a number that I don’t want to say, but my birth year is the same as a Smashing Pumpkins song title. Also, happy birthday to our pal Jazzbo as well!
Where have I been? What have I been doing? Who knows? Who cares? No visuals are necessary here!
No, I’m sure some of you care, and I appreciate it. I kept intending to come back to do the LAST Flippin’ Thru Previews, but by the time I knew which one that was, it was much too late to bother with. So I don’t know what’s going on with the latest comics releases for the last few weeks, between lack of previews and lack of cash flow.
However, I do still loves me a Humble Bundle, especially when I get a little $ back from PayPal when I pay that way (seriously, check it out). Right now HB has 5 cool comics bundles, as well as a pop culture recipe book bundle and a sci-fi book bundle from publisher Tachyon.
In less than a week, the Image Return of the Leading Ladies ends, and it features all sorts of goodness like Saga and Paper Girls and Street Angel and our pal Kelly’s Black Cloak. I’m counting 70 trades worth of stuff for $24 at the highest level, and like most if not all bundles, you’ve got a $1 level that gets you 3 trades.
In just over a week, the Star Trek megabundle ends, and it features a ton of IDW stuff, as well as some other reprinted stuff from the DC years. Byrne’s New Visions are featured as well as the newest stuff, so 93 items for $24 is another steal!
You’ve got 2 weeks left to get the Dynamite 20000 page bundle, which is offered again, which is good because it appears I missed out on this the first time. $20 for 74 items, most of which have multiple volumes. Not just Red Sonja and Vampirella, but a lot of the creator owned/controlled stuff they did several (10+ maybe?) years back.
And just under two weeks for the James Tynion IV bundle, $24 bucks for 42 items from 5 publishers. I’m not a superfan of Tynion’s, but he does some good stuff and I can see if stuff like Something is Killing the Children is as good as people say. The highlight of this bundle, though, is a one month free trial of DC Universe Infinite, DC’s online digital comics portal. I fear if I go there once, I shall never return. That even comes with the $1 level, btw!
And just added today, for just under 3 weeks, was the IGN/SDCC bundle, with a lot of Titan stuff and Humanoids and Dark Horse and Oni in there too. $24 for 38 items (dang, looks like inflation has even hit HB, as they had $18 bundles just recently!). You can get things like Beneath The Trees Where Nobody Sees, Faceless and the Family, and the Man from Maybe, among other very cool books. I will be getting all of these bundles, I hope!
So that’s what I’ve been looking at right now. I hope to hop back here with my review of the Superman movie, some comics I’ve been reading (from the library, not ones I’ve paid for, silly!), and who knows what else? And I’m going to see the Fantastic Four movie tonight, so that is going to kick some ass.
I hope.

Happy birthday from someone whose birth year is the title of a Clash song! Thanks for the heads up about the Humble Bundles, I haven’t checked out what they offer lately. I hope the FF movie is a good time!
Happy birthday.
I am tempted by a few of these bundles, but I also know I’ll never read them– as evidenced by all the other Humble Bundles I’ve purchased.
Of the Tynion stuff, I’ve read Department of Truth, The Deviant, and Nice House on the Lake, and they’re very good. Though bear in mind there are further volumes not included here.
a belated Happy Birthday
I looked online for a song title matching my birth year but the one I found is a song I’ve never heard, and if the controversy surrounding it is justified, I don’t want to hear it or be associated with it.
(though there is a Paul Davis song that mentions the year)
