Two random images from ’69

One is this humor page from a 1969 issue of House of Mystery.

No particular reason, I just found it funny.

I’m not sure why this ad commanded my attention either, other than it’s very much a product of its time (regrettably the site wouldn’t let me post the whole thing for some tech reason).

And since it appeared in one of DC’s non-girl comics (i.e., not Lois Lane, Wonder Woman, Girl’s Love, etc.) obviously somebody in advertising was aware girls read comics.

The body-shaming ads aimed at girls (“put on weight in the right places!”) still appeared in comics even later – albeit usually as a little box on one of those pages with a dozen different ads . I recall seeing them in comics in the late ’70s/early ’80s.

If anyone happens to read this … Currently, we can’t publish anything here at the blog. Something weird is going on with WordPress, and it’s not letting us save or publish anything. We’re not sure why, and we’re hoping for some kind of resolution soon, but for now, nothing’s going on. I have my month-end review post ready to go, but I can’t do anything about it. We can still comment on existing posts, as you can see, and it’s the only way we can communicate with y’all. Thanks for your patience while we figure it out!

(Yes, I already posted this comment. I’m going to do it on several of them, in the hopes that our readers will see it!)
