Celebrating the Unpopular Arts

Look at that! We made it another year!

Yes, it’s our eighth anniversary here at the blog, and if there’s one thing I like, it’s anniversaries, so I like to mention our birthday whenever it comes around. We began here on the first day of October, 2016, and while I know that our contributors are busy and don’t always post regularly, I hope we still have interesting content for you to enjoy. Blogging isn’t necessarily a young person’s game, but it is a game for people with some time on their hands, and we here don’t always have that. But, hey, we still have fun, don’t we? As I do every year, I invite you to check out the sidebar, where you’ll find our contributors and their latest posts, but if you click on their names, you can find everything they’ve written here at the blog. I think we have a nice, eclectic bunch, and I, at least, always enjoy new stuff from the group. I think we have interesting perspectives on comics and all other pop culture, and while our comment section isn’t quite as lively as some from the “Golden Age of Blogging,” we have a good group of commenters who always have fascinating insights into the subject at hand.

I don’t know – I like writing for this blog, and I think we all do (even those who haven’t posted in a while!), so I’m certainly not going to stop. I like working out my thoughts about things through writing about them, and I always appreciate the fact that a lot of people are willing to come along with me and offer their own thoughts. I like that Fraser is reading these weird Silver Age comics, because I certainly haven’t read a ton of stuff from the 1960s. I like that Travis goes through Previews with me, even though he never reads any comics! I like it when Corinna or Jim or Mik drops a new post. I have been blogging for 20 years (you know there’s a post about that coming up, and … yeah, it’s a monster), and it’s always been fun, so I’ll keep posting. I mean, we also have about 3-4 years of Greg Hatcher’s posts to revisit!

So, we’re eight years old. We are very happy to have this space, and we’re very happy that you spend some time with us. As I do every year, I ask you to say hi in the comments if you’re a lurker, or even if you’re not! We love to hear from you! Here’s to another good year at the Atomic Junk Shop!

Wow I can’t believe it’s been eights years already. I don’t comment as much as would like to but I make sure to check this place daily for new posts. I really appreciate what you guys do here especially since the comic sites of yore have turned into click bait wastelands. Happy anniversary!

Thanks, gentlemen. We always appreciate you stopping by! I know I don’t post as much as I used to, because the real world is always getting in the way, but I’m glad that we’re still able to entertain! šŸ™‚

I’m definitely more of a lurker than a comments person – I’ve been on/off reading the blog since the CBR/Comics Should Be Good days. But it’s great that you guys are still it. It really does sometimes feel like you’re the last holdouts of the golden age of pop culture blogging. I don’t always agree with the opinions, but the Two Gregs probably shaped a lot of what I’m into šŸ™‚

Hey, we don’t mind if you don’t comment often! šŸ™‚ We’re glad you’re reading, and I’m happy we’ve been able to help you find some cool stuff out in the world!

Eight years, the time flies. I remember when you guys left the old site, I was still working at an office and all that. The time flies. I really enjoy reading all you guys post here, even if I don’t really spend that much time in front of a computer. I’m still basically a stay at home dad, so I spend more time on my feet listening to podcasts, but I make time to read these posts.

You know we appreciate you reading! Thanks! And sure, you shouldn’t spend too much time in front of the computer, but we’re certainly glad you spend some of it with us! šŸ™‚

I enjoy stopping by often, even though I donā€™t comment much. Greg, your ā€œComics You Should Ownā€ posts especially have lead me to great check out runs I either skipped or hadnā€™t heard about. Thanks for all you dedicated bloggers do to keep the funnybook conversations going. It is much appreciated.

Thanks, sir. I always appreciate you checking in, and I’m certainly glad that I’ve helped you find some cool stuff. That’s why we’re all here! šŸ™‚

  5. Happy eighth birthday! I can’t recall exactly when I stumbled across here. I enjoyed the two Gregs’ and everyone else’s writing on the old CBR site but it changed its format which made it so incompatible for reading on both home & work PCs that I gave up logging in.
So I lost contact, particularly when real life got in the way and I didn’t have time to keep up with pop culture blogs, and missed you guys’ migration onto here.
This is still one of the few pop culture blogs I follow regularly and it has genuinely helped me to get through some difficult times in the past decade and more (counting the old site). For that I’ll be forever grateful.
Like others have said: I don’t have time to comment regularly but rest assured I’ll continue to enjoy your output. Keep on keeping on!

Happy Eight Years! Still reading regularly, even if I don’t comment very often (honestly, you guys keep writing things that inspire me to write very long comments, which I keep putting off until “later”, until the thing I wanted to comment on falls to the next page, and there doesn’t seem to be much point in commenting anymore… Maybe if you didn’t write stuff that I want to say so much about, I’d actually comment more šŸ˜‰ ). Thank you for all the enjoyment and interesting information you’ve supplied over the past years. Still one of the sites I read regularly.

We love comments on old posts, sir! šŸ™‚ We appreciate you coming by and checking us out, and we hope to keep inspiring you to write long comments even if you never actually write them šŸ™‚

If anyone happens to read this ā€¦ Currently, we canā€™t publish anything here at the blog. Something weird is going on with WordPress, and itā€™s not letting us save or publish anything. Weā€™re not sure why, and weā€™re hoping for some kind of resolution soon, but for now, nothingā€™s going on. I have my month-end review post ready to go, but I canā€™t do anything about it. We can still comment on existing posts, as you can see, and itā€™s the only way we can communicate with yā€™all. Thanks for your patience while we figure it out!

(Yes, I already posted this comment. Iā€™m going to do it on several of them, in the hopes that our readers will see it!)
