In the world of comics, Bernie Wrightson was one of the greats. He was the Master of the Macabre, an artist’s artist, and by all accounts, a very nice guy. John shares his memories of one of best artists comics have ever produced.
Last week, I talked about STAR TREK: NEW VISIONS, the photomontage comics series of Star Trek adventures that John Byrne is doing for IDW.
But before John Byrne got a regular gig telling STAR TREK stories, he was just like the rest of us – A STAR TREK fan who’d occasionally make reference to it in his everyday life. It just so happened that Byrne’s everyday life was as a popular writer/artist of comic books. So I thought it’d be fun to see how many ST references I could pick out of Byrne’s classic comic book work.
A good logo can help define a book’s personality, and a GREAT logo can really set a comic book apart on the shelves, bringing in new readers. John runs down a few of his favorite classic comic logos from over the years.

Last week I wrote about Dick Gautier, and mentioned that one of his first major roles was on Mr. Terrific, CBS’ ill-fated attempt at grabbing some of the heat generated by ABC’s Batman. That got me to thinking about the fallout from Batmania. There were a few shows, specials, and most especially cartoon series that tried to get some bat-mojo going. I thought I’d dig up some of the ones I remember.
